Sham Shui Po District Council Po Leung Kuk Shek Kip Mei Community Services Centre officially opened

(25 September 2019, Hong Kong) “Sham Shui Po District Council Po Leung Kuk Shek Kip Mei Community Services Centre” under the Sham Shui Po District Signature Project Scheme of Sham Shui Po District Council (SSPDC) is operated by Po Leung Kuk to render quality, diversified and one-stop services to the residents in the district at affordable price, to address local needs and alleviate the living burden of the underprivileged families. The core services of the Centreinclude occasional childcare services, after-school care services, low-cost hot meal services and comprehensive medical services. The number of beneficiaries is projected to be 100,000 service attendance per year. The Opening Ceremony was held today and officiated by The Hon LAU Kong-wah, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs; Mr Ambrose CHEUNG, BBS, MH, JP, Chairman of SSPDC; Mr Ching Nam MA, CStJ, JP, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk; Miss Charmaine WONG, JP, Deputy Director of Home Affairs; and Mr Damian LEE, JP, District Officer (Sham Shui Po). 

 

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Ching Nam MA, CStJ, JP, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, stated that the Kuk is committed to serving the community by having developed an extensive social supporting network for the underprivileged groups with more than 300 units strategically located in different districts of Hong Kong. As Sham Shui Po is one of the major service points of Po Leung Kuk, Mr MA expressed his gratitude to the Government for reservingfunds to implementSignature Project Schemein all districts, and sincerely thanked SSPDC for its support and trust to Po Leung Kuk as the partner organization of the Project in Sham Shui Po. Po Leung Kuk will collaborate join-handedly with all sectors in the communityto build a caring society.

SSPDC, allegedthat Po Leung Kuk has put in substantial resources to operate the Centre in pursuance of “bringing goodness to the community”. The Centre will become the landmark of Sham Shui Po and benefit the local residents.

 

Community and Medical Services are the 2 main service scopes of the Sham Shui Po District Council Po Leung Kuk Shek Kip Mei Community Services Centre Regarding to Community Services, the Centre renders occasional childcare services and after-school care services at affordable price for the parents who have to work long or irregular hours.Play group and reading time are arranged for the kids aged 3 to 6 joining the occasional child care services, while homework guidance covering Chinese, English and Mathematics is rendered for students aged 6 to 12 joining the after-school care services. The Centre also provides low- cost nutritious hot meal services for the individuals and families who are facing temporary or immediate financial hardship. Furthermore, various social supporting services, social inclusion and volunteer activities are organized to promotethe spirit of mutual assistance and care for the underprivileged among the neighborhood.

 

In the aspect of Medical Services, the Centre provides low-cost Chinese and Western medical services, dental services, physiotherapy, acupuncture and manipulative therapy, as well as other paramedic services and medical check-ups, so as to serve the residents and the needy with quality, professional and holistic medical services.
