Seminar topic
"Listen to Your Child" Emotional Awareness and Regulation
Objective
- To help parents understand their children's emotions and care for their children's mental health through sharing and practice.
- To enhance positive parent-child interaction and the ability to manage children's emotions through experiencing emotional art activities at home.
Important information on Child Emotional Awareness and Regulation
In this workshop, the speaker and parents will explore emotional responses, discuss their own and their children's emotions, and experience parent-child emotional art activities. This will guide parents to effectively manage and regulate their own and their children's emotions, improving mental health.
Parents can effectively use giraffe language to respond to their children's emotions. The four steps of giraffe language include: Observation (describing the facts truthfully without criticism or judgment), Feeling (sharing emotions so the other person understands your feelings), Request (suggestions that are acceptable/happy for both parties, not commands), and Agreement (a mutually agreed-upon solution can effectively communicate and solve problems).
Simple Ways to Help Children Adapt:
To cultivate emotionally stable children, in addition to parents needing to stabilize their own emotions, they can practice breathing exercises with their children daily and engage in emotional art activities together. Emotional art activities could include parent-child paper-cutting and collage making and parent-child plate art games.
