Curriculum

The Kuk attaches great importance to child-centered education to accommodate the individual differences among its students. Children can learn at their own pace by selecting the learning activities according to their abilities and interests, which are conducted under teachers' guidance and self-directed learning alternatively or simultaneously. The teaching design is based on the entire school as a whole and is no longer limited to a single classroom; the learning-rich environment encourages children to explore and learn independently, so as to achieve comprehensive and balanced development. 

The Kuk child care service adopts an integrated teaching method along with the thematic approach in pre-school education, with content covers six major Learning Areas, including language, early childhood mathematics, nature and living, arts and creativity, self and society, and physical fitness and health. Versatile extra-curricular activities are arranged for students to enrich real-life learning experience and widen their horizons. 

With toys and games elements, children can practice different learning aspects such as language, mathematical concepts, science and technology, and logical thinking through the use of the teaching aids. From "learning by doing" and "learning through play", to consolidate their studies. 

Peer interactions construct more opportunities for younger children to mimic the older students on problem solving and improves their learning efficiency.  The scaffolding effect stimulates children's language development, and facilitate their social skills with mutual respect when getting along with others.

The school adopts "Space Approach" in teaching to cultivate children’s self-directed and self-motivated learning attitudes. 

The classrooms are divided into 4 learning zones, including: 

• Expressive Communication Zone
• Exploration Zone
• Visual Arts Zone
• Music & Physical Movement Zone

Apply real-life context and meaningful learning activities to enhance children’s interests in language learning and their presentation and communication abilities. 

Arouse children’s interests in nature, mathematics and science, cultivate their eagerness to explore, establish logical thinking and problem-solving skills. 

Instruct children to utilize materials with different tactile sensations and textures during art activities, empower them to unleash their creativity, express personal feelings and develop their aesthetic sensibility. 

Organize a wide variety of music activities and dramas to study different music and perform physical movement creations, in order to increase children's creativity and imagination. 

Carry out various physical activities, skills training and group games to train up the gross-motor coordination. 

Cross-disciplinary learning will be carried out according to the monthly learning theme amongst each zone. 

2024/25 School Development Plan：

This year, the school has enhanced children's ability to use their bodies for creation and their understanding of Chinese culture through a variety of music activities.

For Teacher：

During this academic semester, our school invited ANDIA CHAN(Teacher DADA), the music and art director of Orff 4 Kids, to the school to provide training for teachers on physical movement skills for leading children's music activities. In the class, the instructor used self-composed songs full of Chinese cultural elements, combined with Chinese Musical Instruments, Inspire teachers to design creative body movements.

For Children：

In line with the school-based curriculum and activities, teachers design various Chinese cultural music activities, allowing children to create using their bodies through these activities.

This year, the school also held various Chinese cultural activities to enhance children's understanding of Chinese culture and their sense of identity.

For Parents：

Organize parent class observation and parent-child music activity workshops to enable parents to understand diverse music activities and their benefits for children's development.

2023/24 School Development Plan：

     The school enhanced teachers' knowledge and skills in planning and implementing music activities through teacher training, so as to facilitate children's creativity through diversified music activities.

For Teacher：

•  In the first semester of this year, the "Music Seed Garden" was invited to conduct training and lesson observation activities for teachers on diversified music activities. In the second semester, teachers also participated in the Cantonese version of the music game course "Orff Of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter" to enrich teachers  understanding of music activities and ability to plan and implement diversified music activities.

For Children：

•  In line with the school-based curriculum and activities, teachers design different diversified music activities for children to gradually enhance their creativity through activities. 

For Parents：

• Organise parent seminars and parent-child music activity workshops to enable parents to understand diverse music activities and their benefits to early childhood development.

2022/23 School Development Plan：

To enrich the free play elements in the curriculum through enhancing teachers’ skills in planning and implementation of free play activities for nurturing children’s proactive learning through play.

For Teachers:

• To invite professional scholars to provide teacher training on articulating the skills in designing the environment and the role of teacher in free play for enhancing teachers’ skills in planning and implementation of free play activities.

For Children:

• To incorporate unstructured play elements and materials into the school-based curriculum and learning spaces for the children to explore freely and further enhance their learning initiative.

For Parents:

• To promote parents’ understanding on the importance of play in children’s development and to provide opportunities for them to experience the benefits through parent talks and parent-child activities.

2021/22 School Development Plan：

To continue the Positive Education Programme, providing positive behavior support to children, teachers and parents, cultivating a positive school environment and build up positive attitudes towards life.

For Teachers:Enhance the positive values and attitudes of teachers.

For Children:Promote positive educational activities to help children realise their character strengths.

For Parents:Collaborate with social workers to implement parenting and grandparenting activities and provide individual consultation for parents in need. 

To promote the school-based free play as a medium for learning, fostering children’s learning interests by elevating the teaching techniques of teachers during free play activities.

For Teachers:Develop teachers’ knowledge and techniques in designing and executing free play activities.

For Children:Enriching our curriculum by adding the free play activities to arouse learning interests of the children.

For Parents: Introduce the concept of free play to parents and promote their understanding on the advantage of free play for children’s development.

• Let parent  join in the booth game day to promote home-school cooperation and build a good relationship

Objectives

• To help children learn about our country and Chinese culture, and to nurture a sense of belonging towards our country.
• To cultivate a sense of belonging towards country and a sense of national identity among children.
• To teach children to become good citizens who abide by the law, take good care of public property, respect and care for others.

Introduction

• Learn Chinese culture and traditional festivals, such as Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year and Dragon Boat Festival through stories, rhymes and songs so that traditional customs can be inherited.

• Through art activities such as Chinese ink painting, Chinese engraving, Chinese traditional paper cutting and food customs, so that children can have a basic understanding of the Chinese culture and their national identity.
