Inauguration Ceremony of the Po Leung Kuk Board of Directors 2019-20
Converging Benevolence Invigorating Creativity
(16 April 2019) The Inauguration Ceremony of the Po Leung Kuk Board of Directors 2019-20, officiated by the Hon LAU Kong-wah, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs, and Dr the Hon LAW Chi-kwong, GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, was held today at Po Leung Kuk Headquarters. The ceremony was well attended by senior government officials, community dignitaries, donors, predecessors, together with friends of Po Leung Kuk, giving a warmest welcome to Chairman Mr Ching Nam MA, CStJ, JP, and the new Board of Directors 2019-20.
The Board of Directors 2019-20 took the oath of office, administered by the Hon LAU Kong-wah, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs (see Appendix 1), and received Fund-raising Awards 2018-19 presented by Dr the Hon LAW Chi-kwong, GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare (see Appendix 2).
Dr Margaret W L CHOI, Chairman of the Board of Directors 2018-19, reported the progress of the major developments during her term, including the groundbreaking ceremony of the Youth Oasis, the planning of the new project “Po Leung Kuk Academy of Professional Education” to provide professional in-service training for professionals in the education and social services sectors, and the launch of the “Youth Entrepreneur and Housing Support Services” to provide residential and retail space at a well below market service charge for young entrepreneurs. Dr CHOI has also made a donation to set up a fund, aiming to promote the education and application of modern technology in order to encourage students to come up with more innovative ideas to create a better society.
Mr Ching Nam MA, CStJ, JP, Chairman of the Board of Directors 2019-20, expressed his deepest gratitude to the great efforts of his predecessors for laying a strong foundation for the Kuk. New initiatives for the year include the promotion of exercises among staff, students and other service recipients so as to build a healthy environment of joy for all in the Kuk. Efforts would also be stepped up as many services are entering into a new phase of their development. The Sham Shui Po District Council Po Leung Kuk Shek Kip Mei Community Service Centre will commence its service soon, the foundation works of the Youth Oasis is in good progress, and the preparation work in respect of the centre offering professional training for pre-primary education practitioners is in its full swing. The new Board will continue to infuse energy and new ideas to revitalize and promote the iconic brand of Po Leung Kuk, so as to create a more distinct image of the Kuk in the minds of the public, and at the same time proactively seek outside funding for the sustainable development of the Kuk.
Po Leung Kuk Board of Directors will continue to uphold and promote the Po Leung Spirit, bringing together charitable forces and invigorating creativity, to facilitate more benevolent deeds in the future and bring goodness to the community.

Founded in 1878, Po Leung Kuk, as one of the largest charity organisations in Hong Kong, has been serving Hong Kong for 141 years with its objective of “Protecting the Young and the Innocent”(保赤安良). Currently, the Kuk has more than 300 units strategically located in Hong Kong and provides services in social welfare, education, recreation and cultural fields.
