Po Leung Kuk receives generous donation from former Director for facilities improvement of the 35-year Kwong Fuk Kindergarten-cum-Nursery in Tai Po

(26 February 2019, Hong Kong) Nearly 900 local kindergartens across Hong Kong seem largely identical, but each of them is indispensable to the unique growth of the children and their families in their respective districts. Located in Kwong Fuk Estate, the Po Leung Kuk Kwong Fuk Kindergarten-cum- Nursery has been serving Tai Po for 35 years. It is well-known by the neighborhood with its commitment in providing pre-primary education and daytime child care service for children in Tai Po District, and plays an important role to the children’s growth.

In appreciation of the generous donation from Mr LAU Chun, Director of Po Leung Kuk 1986-1987, to support the school facilities and teaching equipment improvement of Kwong Fuk Kindergarten-cum-Nursery, the school has been officially renamed as “Po Leung Kuk Lau Chun Kindergarten-cum-Nursery (“Lau Chun Kindergarten”)”, and a dedication ceremony officiated by Mrs CHAN SIU Suk Fan, Principal Assistant Secretary (Kindergarten Education) of Education Bureau was launched.

During the ceremony, students from Lau Chun Kindergarten and Po Leung Kuk Wai Yin Association Child Development Centre at Po Heung Estate in Tai Po, collaborated for their first time in the lion dance performance and acrobatic shows. The spectacular performances had left deep impressions on the guests and parents to the great care given by the Po Leung Kuk teachers in nurturing the children’s growth.

Dr Margaret W L CHOI, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Mr LAU Chun as a staunch supporter of Po Leung Kuk since his tenure as Director in 1980s. She remarked that the child care services of the Kuk not only place emphasis on educating the young, but also provides diversified daycare and long whole-day child care services in Tai Po to meet the needs and relieve the worries of working parents, and thanked again for the contributions of the Po Leung Kuk frontline education team.

Mr LAU Chun, former Director and Donor, also shared at the speech that the reason for his donation was because he believed early childhood education can lay a good foundation for learning. He also commended Kwong Fuk Kindergarten-cum-Nursery for its dedication in serving Tai Po District by offering suitable teaching to the young children over 35 years, and wished to further support the school in creating a better learning environment.
