Architrave

  • Traces of art deco can also be found at the windows of the Main Building. The architrave, or the frame of the window, follows closely to the classical design of entablature running along the roofline and emphasizes consistency and regularity.
  • The moulding of the architrave is made of shanghai plaster and was commonly found in Hong Kong architecture designed in the 1920s and 30s. The plaster was also widely used in Shanghai’s art deco influenced architecture and influenced Hong Kong’s building designs.
