Exhibition Introduction
Po Leung Kuk’s charity fundraising events aim not only to raise funds for charitable causes, but also to provide entertainment for the community. Cantonese opera was widely popular in Hong Kong during the 1950s, and the Kuk held its first Cantonese opera fundraising event in 1952. Since then, many renowned performers have staged countless popular plays for the Kuk. Today, the social role of Cantonese opera may have changed, the Kuk remains dedicated to the promotion of Chinese culture by integrating its essence into various services.
Showcasing historic archival records and photos, the exhibition revisit classical performances staged for Po Leung Kuk, exploring the changing social roles of Cantonese opera.
