‘Silver Age Got Talent’ - Po Leung Kuk joins hands with Link REIT to sow seeds of joy

(8 January 2020, Hong Kong) Joy gives us energy. Sharing our joy brings positivity and good vibes to the people around us. Drawing upon the idea of positive psychology, Po Leung Kuk Elderly Services put together ‘7 principles of happiness’ to launch the ‘Silver Age Got Talent’ campaign with the aim to promote active ageing and encourage the elderly to enjoy retirement life. A total of 160 elderly participants were recruited to receive training in clowning and other forms of performing arts and given the opportunities to perform in different neighbourhoods to spread happiness. Today, the Kuk held the ‘Silver Age Got Talent’ Sharing Day where these elderly participants gathered to showcase on stage their skills acquired through training.

The two-year ‘Silver Age Got Talent’ campaign, an extension to the 2017-18 ‘Clown with Happy Express’, is continuously supported by Link Asset Management Limited (Link REIT) in the years of 2018/19 and 2019/20. The objective of the campaign is to offer to the elderly training and performance opportunities in clowning and other forms of performing arts as a way to release their potential in retirement. Trained to be ‘happy clowns’, participants of the campaign will perform across town to sow the seeds of joy in the community. Officiated by Mr Tick Yee TAN, Assistant Director of Social Welfare Department, the ‘Silver Age Got Talent’ Sharing Day held today invited 160 elderly beneficiaries to give performances on stage in clowning, djembe, boxing dance and percussion that they learnt during the training sessions.

Mr Ching Nam MA, CStJ, JP, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, expressed gratitude during the opening ceremony to Link REIT for their financial and venue sponsorship. With their dedicated support, the campaign was successfully launched so that elderly people are able to engage with the local communities, reaching the goal of active ageing. Mr MA also hoped that through this campaign Po Leung Kuk can sow the seeds of joy and create a positive impact on the society.

Mr Nicholas ALLEN, Chairman of Link Asset Management Limited, comments: ‘The “Silver Age Got Talent” campaign is one of the six community projects under our “Link Together Initiatives”. It is our pleasure to partner with Po Leung Kuk in this project which helps create a harmonious community by bringing positive energy to the society.’
