HKCA Po Leung Kuk School received HK$4 million donation for school improvement

(28 May 2019, Hong Kong) HKCA Po Leung Kuk School is privileged to receive a generous donation of HK$4 million from Mr HO Sai Chu, GBM, GBS, JP, Chairman of Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation Limited. As a gratitude to Mr HO Sai Chu and his family members for their support to the school improvement, the campus is now named after their late father as “Ho Iu Kwong Campus”. The Dedication Ceremony was officiated by Dr CHOI Yuk Lin, JP, Under Secretary for Education, Mr MA Ching Nam, CStJ, JP, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk and PLK Schools’ Supervisors Committee, and the Board of Directors.

HKCA Po Leung Kuk School, formerly known as the Building Contractors’ Association School, was established by Mr HO Iu Kwong and the Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) in 1951 and officially commenced operation in September 1957. After 60 years, Po Leung Kuk collaborated with the HKCA again in 2017, aiming to transform the Building Contractors’ Association School into the first IB-PYP (International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme) private school of the Kuk, which is the HKCA Po Leung Kuk School at present. Mr HO Sai Chu and his family members inherited the philanthropic spirit from Mr HO Iu Kwong, and donated HK$4 million under Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation to support the renovation of the campus, so as to continue their father’s wish in nurturing talents for the society by providing the students with a quality learning environment.

Mr MA Ching Nam, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, also follows the charitable footprint of his late father, Dr MA Kam Ming, MBE, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk in 1960 who founded the Po Leung Kuk Committee Fellowship Association No. 1 Primary School, and serves the same role 60 years later as the Chairman of Po Leung Kuk 2019-20. In his speech, Mr MA expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr HO Iu Kwong for leading the HKCA to build the school 60 years ago, and the generous donation of Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation for sponsoring the school renovations, including classrooms, art room, music room, and the playground with learning purposes, facilitating a conducive learning environment for students.
