HKCA Po Leung Kuk School received generous donation for new school hall

(28 March 2019, Hong Kong) HKCA Po Leung Kuk School, the first IB-PYP (International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme) private school of the Kuk, received a donation of HK$2 million from Dr Simon KWOK, SBS, JP, and Dr Eleanor KWOK, BBS, JP, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk 2016/17. The school hall is named after the two benefactors as a gratitude to their generous donation. The new hall fosters a better learning environment to cater for different study needs of the students. The Naming Ceremony of the “Dr Kwok Siu Ming Simon and Dr Kwok Law Kwai Chun Eleanor Hall” was held at the school today, and officiated by Dr CHOI Yuk Lin, JP, Under Secretary for Education.  


In cooperation with the Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA), Po Leung Kuk has officially set up the HKCA Po Leung Kuk School in 2017. The school has currently enrolled nearly 200 students from 17 countries between Grade 1 and 4, demonstrating an international background with diverse races and culture. Based on the successful application for IB authorization last month, the school will move forward to the verification process this year and is expected to be authorized as an IB World School by early 2020. Besides adopting English in the IB Primary Years Programme, students also have to learn Mandarin and traditional Chinese in daily Chinese lessons, enabling them to understand Chinese culture for their future learning and communication, so as to become global citizens.


Dr Margaret W L CHOI, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, expressed her gratitude to the Education Bureau for their support in making the HKCA Po Leung Kuk School to develop into a sizable primary school merging with international curriculum and local elements within a year of establishment. She also thanked the donors, Dr Simon KWOK and Dr Eleanor KWOK, for their steadfast support to Po Leung Kuk. Apart from donating to the School, their past donations cover the Kuk’s educational, social and medical services. A fund has also been set up to subsidize outstanding students under Po Leung Kuk schools in pursuing undergraduate education.      


Dr CHOI Yuk Lin, JP, Under Secretary for Education, noted with appreciation the wide spectrum of educational services provided by the Kuk meet different needs of the students and the IB programme offered by HKCA Po Leung Kuk School will surely broaden the students’ global horizons. Dr CHOI also encouraged students to study the languages from the countries in “One Belt One Road” in addition to the existing biliteracy and trilingualism learning, preparing themselves to open up for more opportunities in the future.
