All PLK Chinese Medicine Mobile Clinics provide free treatment and hygiene kits to the public amid COVID-19 outbreak

Hong Kong, 26th March, 2020With its vision on ‘MedSoLink’, Po Leung Kuk’s Chinese Medicine Mobile Clinics are dedicated to offering quality, convenient and Chinese medical consultation services at affordable price to the broader community. Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, all of the Kuk’s four Chinese Medicine Mobile Clinics continue to safeguard public health by providing free consultation services and give away hygiene kits from 25th March to 30th May as a way to facilitate the grass roots and people with needs to seek medical care without travelling a long way from where they live. For thousands of years, the concept of Zhi Weibing (preventive treatment of disease) in Chinese medicine aims at taking proactive measures to prevent illnesses; taking timely treatments at the onset of an illness; preventing an illness from worsening in the process of treatment; and, lastly, preventing recurrences when an illness is cured. Bearing this long-standing concept in mind, the Kuk’s Mobile Clinics are working to protect and support the people of Hong Kong in the face of the outbreak to nourish the mind and body from the basics and boost immunity which is fundamental to fighting infection.

Being one of the largest charitable organisations and social welfare NGOs in Hong Kong, the Kuk has achieved to build a vast social security network to address the needs of people of different ages and from all walks of life via its 300 plus service units across the territory. All four of the Kuk’s Chinese Medicine Mobile Clinics travel around the city to provide services in about twenty neighbourhoods in Shek Kip Mei, Kwun Tong, Tseung Kwan O, Ma On Shan, Shatin, Tai Po, North District, Hong Kong Island and more. The programme to offer free-of-charge Chinese medical consultation services, consisting of daytime services and limited evening services, is  implemented for the period between 25th March and 30th May (Sundays and public holidays excluded). Under the programme, the consultation fee and the cost of 3 days of medications would be waived for a maximum of 30 service users visiting each Mobile Clinic per day and it is estimated that the number of beneficiaries will be more than 6,000 people in total. In addition, all service users would each be given a face mask and a kit of hygiene items for free and while stocks last.

To reduce waiting time and avoid mass gatheringsso as to minimise the chance of cross infection, appointments for the above free treatment can be made by telephone only. Tel no.: 5592 4339 (a promotional leaflet is enclosed for reference)
