Po Leung Kuk social services turn a new page and bring innovative technology and new units to its beneficiaries

(26 March 2020, Hong Kong) Society is composed of people from different strata and communities, and the need for support varies among groups. This year, the Kuk’s new service units including elderly, rehabilitation and child care centres have been commissioned gradually to serve various parties and respond to the needs of Hong Kong today as a powerful backing for social development.

Po Leung Kuk Tsuen Wan Day Care Centre for the Elderly has recently received a generous donation of HK$4.38 million from the family foundation of Mr Ching Nam MA, CStJ, JP, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk. Aiming at “incorporating technology and innovative thinking into service enhancement”, a variety of IT products will be added for bringing more considerate services to the elderly. As a gratitude to the fervent support of Chairman Mr MA, the centre is renamed after Mr MA’s parents as “Po Leung Kuk Ma Kam Ming Ma Cheung Fook Sien Day Care Centre for the Elderly”.

Po Leung Kuk Ma Kam Ming Ma Cheung Fook Sien Day Care Centre for the Elderly is the largest single-block elderly day care centre in Hong Kong, offering 88 regular service places and providing comprehensive services including medical, rehabilitation and social activities to the elderly within the district. Several facilities will be added by the donation, for instance, the cloud computing health monitor will help enable family members to keep track of the elders’ health conditions; other equipment such as virtual reality lower limbs trainer and multi-sensory touchscreen simulator will also bring diversified, interesting yet user-friendly multi-sensory training to the elderly, thereby reducing their physical deterioration.

Chairman Mr Ching Nam MA is grateful to his parents – Dr Kam Ming MA, MBE, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk 1960-61, and his wife, and hopes to pass on their benevolence in lending a helping hand to the underprivileged groups and caring for the society. He also expresses that Po Leung Kuk will keep up its efforts in providing quality services and spreading more positive energy to the society in future.

The Centre offers western medicine, Chinese medicine, dental service, physical examination and vaccination services with discounts for the elderly aged 65 or above.

Another new service unit – Po Leung Kuk So Uk Child Development Centre – has been opened in phases since December 2019. The Centre focuses on providing pre-school training and therapy services for children up to 6 years of age with special educational needs. A total of 90 service quotas of “Early Education and Training Centre” are generated in phase 1, and 30 places will be designated to the “Special Child Centre” which is scheduled to be launched in phase 2.
