"SWEETIE AI Lunar Exploration Challenge 2026” Competition and Award Ceremony
The "SWEETIE AI Lunar Exploration Challenge 2026" Competition and Award Ceremony, the first-ever collaboration between Po Leung Kuk and The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), was successfully held on April 11, 2026, at EdUHK.
The competition was co-coordinated by PLK Women’s Welfare Club Western District Fung Lee Pui Yiu Primary School, PLK Siu Hon Sum Primary School, and PLK Centenary Li Shiu Chung Memorial College. It simulates a Lunar base exploration scenario. Students need to design and operate AI robots to complete missions such as resource exploration and base construction. The contest emphasizes interdisciplinary application, teamwork, and innovation. Total 58 teams of Primary 3 to Secondary 3 students from 24 PLK primary schools and 10 PLK secondary schools participated.
A professional team of EdUHK staff and PLK primary and secondary school teachers provided technical guidance, venue setup, and logistical support. Furthermore, the Hong Kong Innovative and Robotics Society led its members in assisting with venue setup and performing judging duties. Due to the collective efforts of all parties, the competition was conducted successfully.
The award ceremony featured a video address by our Guest of Honour, Ms. Lillian M. L. Cheong, JP, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry. The event was also attended and supported by Mrs. Emily H. Y. Tang, First Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Education Services Committee, and Professor Susanna S. S. Yeung, Associate Vice President (Quality Assurance) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). Dr. William W. L. Lam, Principal Education Officer (Innovation Technology Education and Quality Assurance) of the Education Bureau, along with a representative from the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching of EdUHK, were also in attendance. In addition, representatives from sponsoring and supporting organizations, including Huatai International Financial Holdings Company Limited, AiTLE, and COCOROBO, joined the event.
During the ceremony, participants enjoyed the highlight video on the preparation process of teachers and students. Four major awards were presented, concluding with a live sharing session by the Excellence in Presentation Award Champion, who presented their preparation journey and insights.
