| History
is a witness of culture, telling us stories of past successes and
failures for our reflection. In order to acknowledge the good
work of our predecessors, the Board of the Kuk began to arrange the
historical records in a systematic way in 1979 and to store them in
special cabinets since 1980. Allocated with a room on
the first floor of the Welfare Building (Dedicated as the Vicwood
K.T. Chong Building in March 1996) for this very purpose, the Archives
was officially opened on 8th March 1984. With further
allocation of the adjacent room in the following year, the Archives
was on its way to active mending of old files and conservation of
treated documents by categorized storage. Proposed relocation
of the archives to the Kuk's Main Building to allow exhibits of historical
records and collections reflecting on the Kuk's evolution throughout
the century found green light in 1996. On completion of fitting
out of the exhibition halls, the Archives was officially opened by
the Hon. Elsie Leung , JP, Secretary for Justice, on 19th
January 1998. The Po Leung Kuk Archives has since been opened
to the public. |
