Mr. Yao had always visited the school and cared about the teachers and students.

The late Mr. Yao Ling-Sun was a well-known philanthropist. PLK has benefited from Mr. Yao’s substantial bequest to support its rehabilitation and educational services. With the benefit of the bequest the “PLK Yao Ling Sun Charity Fund for Rehabilitation Services” was set up. “PLK Yao Ling Sun Hostel”, a service unit for the intellectually disabled in Tin Shui Wai, has been named after the late Mr. Yao and the donation was allocated to improve hostel facilities and provide additional services for the disabled.

In memory of the late Mr. Yao and his devotion in nurturing the young, approximately half of the bequest has been assigned to the establishment of the “PLK Yao Ling Sun Memorial Education Fund” for the future development and campus improvement of PLK Yao Ling Sun College.

Mr. Yao served as Vice Chairman of Po Leung Kuk in the 1970s. He committed much of his time and resources to the teaching staff and students of PLK Yao Ling Sun College since the School’s establishment. He also established scholarships and quality education funds particularly for the underprivileged.

Passing on the Joy

photoIn 2010, Mr. Law, a 73 year-old passionate man, lived alone in his own apartment.  Mr. Law had to be very careful on spending every single penny in order to sustain his living and pay the heavy medical treatment cost.  He got familiar with PLK since he was offered the PLK home care service in 2010.  He couldn’t breathe normally due to his lung problem.  It highly restricted his daily life and he couldn’t go out for fun until he received the support from PLK Dream Come True Elderly Sponsorship Programme.  The programme brought him costly equipment which allowed him to breathe normally in a longer period without changing oxygen bottles frequently.  Mr. Law could join ranges of outdoor activities in the PLK elderly centre and make new friends with the centre’s members since then.  Mr. Law’s passion towards life and learning was not quenched easily, even after he received cataract surgery. Till early 2014, Mr. Law applied for the Dream Come True sponsorship programme again in order to finish an electric keyboard playing course, his last dream. He passed away with content, satisfaction and respect. The good thing is that before Mr. Law left the world, he joined the life & death education workshop organized by the elderly centre, it helped him to face death positively.

photoMr. Law had felt much love and warmth through the service of PLK during his final years. He was grateful for the joyful life that the sponsorship programmes and the people in the elderly centre had brought to him. His relatives followed his will to donate his bequest of HK$ 600,000 after selling his flat, to the Kuk in support of other elderly members in need. An outreach service fund for the elderly in need has been established in memory of Mr. Law.
