Community Canteen-Provision of Hot Meal

Granny NgGranny Ng, aged over 90, lives alone in a very small flat located in one of the public housing estates in Hong Kong. Due to her physical limitation, it is hard for her to walk to the wet market and carry grocery every day, not to mention to do the cooking after a “long journey” there. The PLK community canteen now serves Ms. Ng every day with quality and tasty dishes at a very low cost. Now, Ms. Ng’s regular visit to the community canteen has enriched her life, and brought her many new friends, giggles and laughters. She and her friends in the community canteen treasure what they have been enjoying and feel grateful about the service.

社區飯堂Apart from the community canteen service, our medical service and the Home Care Service for the Elders are also helping the elderly to enjoy their lives at home vividly.

擁抱 ‧ 一家擁抱 ‧ 一家Mrs. Peng's son, named Yiu Kei, was diagnosed as a mild mentally handicapped person with Autism Spectrum Disorder twenty years ago. It was used to be an unpleasant experience to Mrs. Peng, her family and Yiu Kei’s school teachers when dealing with him and his challenging behavior.

The situation changed after Yiu Kei was offered a vocational training and residential placement by PLK rehabilitation and hostel service in Tin Shui Wai. Over the years, Yiu Kei has received a wide range of training programs specially designed by social workers and allied health professionals in the center. After received the training, Yiu Kei's emotional problems and challenging behavior are significantly lessened and he can better express himself to vent his anxiety.

The jarring situation and tension between Yiu Kei and the family are reduced. This also induces Mrs. Peng’s passion in joining volunteering work in the centre proactively and staying connected with other families having similar background. Now, the Peng's family is filled with joy and hopes.

We need regular financial support from donors in order to maintain adequate manpower and resources for running and expanding the rehabilitation services for the people with disability and their families. Legacy is one of the important sources to keep our work going.

以愛栽培Po Leung Kuk operates more than 120 education service units in Hong Kong covering most of the Public Housing Estates and deprived areas. Now we have more than 50,000 students and many of them are from low income families. Legacy can help these underprivileged students and their family directly through establishing scholarship funds to award students who achieve outstanding academic results in specific area, help capable students suffering from financial difficulties to continue tertiary education, or support them to expand their horizons through extracurricular activities. Scholarship funds can be named after donors in memory and appreciation of them.
