Integrated Family Services provide a variety of services to the individuals and families facing hardship.
With the social conditions and economic situations constantly changing, family crises and problems continue to surface in the community. Although Statistics from the Social Welfare Department of HKSARG indicate the number of family violence decreases from 4,807 in 2009 to 3,163 in 2010, but the number of newly reported child abuse cases reflects a slight increase from 993 in 2009 to 1,001 in 2010. Of those, 58.1% reported parents as abusers. Though the number of newly reported spousal abuse cases declined and there was only a slight increase of newly reported child abuse cases in 2010, persistent provision of services in tackling family problems is indispensable.
The average enrolment at our child residential services is now over 90%, while the utilization of our emergency child residential services is always at its full capacity. The Social Welfare Department (SWD) has increased the capacity of urgent placements for battered women and children in recent years. The Victim Support Programme for Victims of Family Violence was launched in June 2010. Moreover, the SWD has plans to increase child residential places in meeting the service demand. We would actively bid for the operation of new services as the need arises and continue to run education programmes and other services to promote non-violence in the community.
